Last year, from the 19th to the 24th of January, as part of the ongoing initiative to empower female entrepreneurs through the She RISE project, the Sauti ya Mtoto Foundation organized a 4-day program. The event aimed to establish a community of 100 women entrepreneurs from the Mwananyamala ward, as well as a group of young women. During the program, participants received education on entrepreneurship, leadership, stress management, and mental health improvement. The insightful sessions were led by AJ Kim, the Executive Director of Good Days Only based in Canada. The program also emphasized mutual support among participants, encouraging them to view each other as family and commit to each other's protection.
The group of women comprised a mix of widows and young mothers, totaling 100, while the group of young women consisted of 30 participants. The latter received education on safe menstruation practices, self-confidence, leadership, gender-based violence, and mental health. Additionally, they were provided with essential sanitary pads. Special gifts, including kitenge fabric, were given to those aged 70 and above, as well as to individuals with disabilities.
All participants received pineapple gifts from Mr. Anthony Luvanda, the Chairman of the Sauti ya Mtoto Foundation, sourced from his farm.
